Silicone Edge Graphic Frames

 In Blog, Products

Our latest product is a frame you may or may not be familiar with: silicone edge graphic frames, also known as SEG frames, or fabric tension frames. Even if you don’t know what they are, you have definitely already encountered them in your day to day life without realising. The retail world is full of these frames; every upmarket shop you go into will have an aluminium frame with a fabric graphic on the wall, and some will even have freestanding versions. Now they are becoming more and more popular in the exhibition market, we wanted to standardise what we could offer to make them accessible for any event.

Why are they so popular?

There are few key selling points with an silicone edge graphic frame:

  • They are easy to assemble and disassemble
  • They can be made in custom sizes up to 10m wide by 3m high freestanding or wallmounted
  • They can be provided backlit for extra impact

The big selling point though which stands far above the rest is that once they are assembled it is only minutes to take out the old graphic and insert the new graphic. Each silicone edge graphic comes with a plastic edging on the reverse (known as keder). This edging slots into each side of the frame and tensions to create the finished product. This makes these types of frames a very good investment because they don’t require any expertise for new graphics, and the graphics are a fraction of the cost of the frame making repeat orders especially economical.

What do I need to know when ordering?

Here are the key questions you need answered for any silicone edge graphic frame:

  • Is it freestanding or wall mounted?
  • What is the access like? Eg do you need to use a lift to get up to the installation area. This will let you know whether you need the extrusion cut into smaller pieces and supplied with connectors. It’s important to get this right as it will impact on the price
  • Does it need to be backlit?
  • Are there any restrictions on height where they are being installed?
How do I set up the artwork files?

Because each frame is bespoke we don’t have a standard template, but here’s the basic guidelines:

  • Safe area is 50mm in from the finished size on each edge (eg 1000mm x 1000mm frame, the safe area is 900mm x 900mm)
  • Bleed area is 59mm on-top of the finished size on each edge (eg 1000mm x 1000mm frame, the bleed area is 1118mm x 1118mm)
  • Read the rest of our artwork guidelines for general tips
